Terms of use
In short
- Kinwood is free to use; Premium features are sold as a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase through Google Play or the App Store.
- What you put in your tree stays yours. We only host it so the app can work, and you can export or delete it whenever you like.
- You are responsible for the information you add about other people and for who you share your tree with.
- Kinwood is provided as is, by one developer; please keep an export of anything you cannot afford to lose.

1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Varnit Saini, an individual developer based in Delhi, India ("we", "us"), for your use of the Kinwood mobile app and website (the "Service"). By using the Service you accept these terms and our privacy policy, which explains how we handle your data. If you do not agree, please do not use Kinwood.
2. Who can use Kinwood
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age for digital consent where you live, if higher) to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian agrees to these terms on your behalf.
3. Accounts
- You can use Kinwood as a guest or sign in with Google or Apple. A guest account lives on the phone it was created on: if you uninstall the app or lose the phone before signing in, that account and its trees cannot be recovered. Sign in to keep your trees safe and see them on other devices.
- You are responsible for what happens under your account and for keeping your Google or Apple sign-in secure.
- You can delete your account, with all its data, at any time from Settings → Delete account. Deletion is permanent.
4. Your content
- It is yours. You keep all rights to the people, relationships, dates, stories, photos and voice recordings you add ("your content"). We claim no ownership of it.
- Our licence. So the Service can work, you give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to store, copy, process, display and transmit your content, only for the purpose of providing the Service to you and to the people you share it with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies in backups that are removed on their normal schedule.
- Your responsibility. You confirm that you have the right to add your content, including photos, recordings and personal details of other people, and that adding it does not break any law or anyone's rights. If a relative asks you to remove or correct something about them, please do so.
- Keep a copy. You can export any tree as a data file from the tree's menu. We recommend doing this regularly: it is your backup, and it works even if the Service is unavailable.
5. Sharing trees
When tree sharing is available, you can invite people as editors or viewers. You are responsible for who you invite; editors can change your tree. The owner of a tree can change roles, remove members and delete the tree, which deletes it for everyone who had access. Invite links and codes should be sent only to the people they are meant for.
6. Premium
- Free plan. The free plan includes unlimited people and trees, a photo for every person, data export and the other features marked free in the app. We do not show ads.
- Premium plans. Premium unlocks extra features such as photo galleries and voice recordings, full-resolution originals, tree themes, image and PDF poster export, and the Family organiser. It is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time lifetime purchase. Prices are shown in the app in your local currency before you buy.
- Billing. Purchases are made through Google Play or the Apple App Store and are subject to their terms. Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. You can cancel, change or manage a subscription in your Google Play or App Store account settings; uninstalling the app does not cancel it. Cancelling stops the next renewal; the current period continues to its end and is not refunded.
- Refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their refund policies, as we do not process payments ourselves. Contact us if you have a problem and we will help where we can.
- Lifetime means for the life of the Service on the platform you bought it on. Premium is tied to your signed-in account; use Restore purchases on a new device.
- Changes. We may add, change or retire Premium features and change prices for future purchases. Price changes for an existing subscription take effect only at its next renewal, after notice from the store.
- Existing content is never locked behind Premium: if a subscription ends, you can still view, edit and export everything you added; you only lose the ability to add more of the Premium-only items.
7. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- add content about people that you have no right to add, or use the Service to stalk, harass, expose or defame anyone;
- upload unlawful, infringing or harmful material;
- try to access other users' data, bypass the access rules or Premium checks, overload the Service, or reverse-engineer the app except where the law allows;
- resell the Service or use it to build a competing product.
8. Our rights
The Kinwood app, website, name, design and code are ours and protected by copyright and other laws. We grant you a personal, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the app on devices you own or control, under the store's terms. Nothing in these terms gives you any other rights in the Service.
9. Changes to the service
Kinwood is actively developed. We may add, change or remove features, and may suspend the Service for maintenance. If we ever decide to shut the Service down, we will give at least 30 days' notice in the app and keep export working until then, so you can take your trees with you.
10. Ending your use
You can stop using Kinwood and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, or if the law requires it; where reasonable we will warn you first and give you a chance to export your data. Sections 4, 8 and 11 to 13 continue to apply after your account ends.
11. No warranty
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the extent the law allows, we make no promises that it will be uninterrupted, error-free or fit for a particular purpose, or that your content will never be lost, which is why we ask you to keep exports. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be limited by contract.
12. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, loss of data or loss of profits arising from your use of the Service, and our total liability to you for all claims is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or INR 1,000 if you paid nothing). This does not exclude liability for fraud, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else that cannot be excluded by law.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and disputes are subject to the courts of Delhi, India. If you live in a country whose consumer law gives you the right to bring a claim in your local courts under your local law, that right is not affected.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the Service changes. The date at the top shows the current version. For significant changes we will tell you in the app before they take effect; continuing to use Kinwood after that means you accept the new terms.
